What it actually does
Goodcall is an AI that answers inbound business calls. You get a Goodcall number or you forward your existing line when nobody picks up. It greets, answers FAQs from a Google listing, Yelp, website, or a PDF you upload, takes a message, can SMS a booking link during the call, and can transfer to your people. Transcripts land in a dashboard. Owner alerts go out by email or SMS. That is the product.
It is not a live answering service. There is no North America receptionist on staff. “Human backup” means your own operator directory, a callback, or a message. It is not missed-call text-back. It is not a two-way SMS inbox, website chat, or review tool. Native live booking is documented for Boulevard (salons). ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber, Dentrix, Clio, and Mindbody are Zapier-or-marketing claims, not help-center connectors. GoHighLevel MCP showed up in June 2026. Do not assume it books into your FSM until you see it on a demo.
Who should buy it
Buy it if you are a low-volume local shop, most after-hours calls are “are you open / send a link,” you will stay under about 100 unique phone numbers a month, and you will self-serve the bot. Repeat-customer salons on Boulevard are the cleanest fit. A one-person computer-repair or junk-removal shop that just needed the phone picked up is the other.
Do not buy it if a botched 2 a.m. call is a real job. Plumbers and HVAC with storm-week new callers will chew unique-customer caps. Starter is 100 uniques, then $0.50 each. Same person from a different number is a new unique. Law firms that need intake with a human safety net should be on Smith.ai. Dentists with Dentrix: no native connector found.
The reason not to buy is the trust gap plus the missing human. Homepage says 42,000-plus businesses. G2 is 3.5 from one review (body not retrieved). Capterra listing is empty. Trustpilot is 2.9 from two reviews. Reddit: nothing retrieved. BBB profile for Goodcall AI Inc. is A-minus, not accredited, one unresolved July 2025 complaint: billed up front on what they thought was a 14-day trial, email tickets, no phone number to reach anyone. A December 2023 Trustpilot review is a shop that put a Goodcall number on listings, then got locked out of voicemail unless they paid about $60 a month. Do not publish the Goodcall-issued number as your brand number until you have lived with it.
The verdict
When it works, the pitch is simple: unlimited minutes, public pricing, the phone gets answered. Current official list (August 25, 2026): Starter $79 a month per agent (100 uniques), Growth $129 (250), Scale $249 (500). Annual toggle $66 / $108 / $208. Ignore older $59 / $99 / $199 tables. Those died in a December 1, 2025 migration that moved existing customers onto the new menu. Month-to-month auto-renew. Cancel in the dashboard. Payments are final; you can request a refund for the current month. Starter keeps call history 7 days. Inactive 60 days and they release the number.
Situational. Cheap enough to trial for 14 days on overflow. Not the default receptionist for a trade whose after-hours line is the business. If the call needs judgment, pay for Smith.ai or a human service.
